February 19th, 2002, London/South Africa - Intec Telecom Systems, a world leader in Operations Support Systems (OSS) for telecom companies, today announced that Cell C, a new GSM mobile operator in South Africa, has chosen Intec to supply its InterconnecT billing system.

Intec's software solution was sold as part of a complete IT solution package offered by Accenture, a global provider of management and technology consulting services and solutions. Under the terms of the agreement, Intec will provide Accenture with support and upgrade requirements for InterconnecT, the market leader in intercarrier billing for domestic and international settlements. London-based Intec maintains a major development facility in Cape Town.

"As a new operator in the region, Cell C needed an intercarrier billing product that could support its major business partners without any risk to the overall network," said Dave Baker, Operations Director for Intec Telecom Systems in South Africa. "The company was entering a fiercely competitive market where there are two major GSM providers already in existence. Intec's InterconnecT solution has the technology and scalability to ensure that Cell C will effectively meet their inter-carrier billing needs."

Cell C is now the country's third major mobile operator, and expects to capture 15 to 20 percent of the total cellular market by 2006. South Africa currently has 9.5 million active mobile users and industry experts predict that the number will increase to 18 million over the next 5 years. InterconnecT will provide Cell C with a system that can accommodate its fixed, mobile and IP carrier partners. Its scalability will enable the company to deal with growing call volumes as it expands.

"Intec has very capable operations in South Africa, as home to one of our major development centres," says Kevin Adams, Intec's CEO. "Cell C's selection of InterconnecT, combined with the strength of our relationship with Accenture, makes us the natural choice in the growing African market for OSS solutions."
