Intec and Indias VSNL sign second InterconnecT deal

2002 Archive

London - 26 September, 2002 – OSS software specialist Intec Telecom Systems has signed a deal for its InterconnecT™ billing software with the leading Indian international telecoms access provider, VSNL, which is now a Tata Group company. Under the deal other Tata Group companies, such as TATA Teleservices Limited (TTL) and Hughes Telecom India Ltd. (HTIL), would also have access to an InterconnecT licence. The agreement is the culmination of a rigorous evaluation of InterconnecT’s features and capabilities and an extensive comparative study of competitive products by VSNL. This is also a second order for Intec from VSNL after a successful implementation of the InterconnecT ITU system for international billing.

Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) operates a network of earth stations, switches, submarine cable systems, and value added service nodes in India, providing a range of basic and more advanced services to customers. VSNL has 13 gateways of which the main gateway centres are located in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. The company's ADRs are listed on the New York Stock Exchange and its shares are listed on the major Stock Exchanges in India. VSNL shareholders include the Indian Government and the Tata Group. About 30 percent of the company is owned by other local institutions and the public. After a long stint offering international connectivity, VSNL is now entering the field of domestic long distance services. Selecting InterconnecT for this very important venture is a key development in the Indian market for Intec.

“VSNL is an extremely important player in Asia’s telecommunications sector,” says John Rocca, Intec’s Regional Director. “With a growing market share in India and rising international and domestic traffic VSNL will quickly recognise the value provided by InterconnecT to achieve greater revenue through accurate billing of its interconnect partners.”

Speed to market and flexibility are important in India’s fast-moving telecoms sector. With a population of over 1 billion people and one of the lowest telephone service penetrations in the world, India offers many opportunities for the telecommunications industry.

“Our proven track record with InterconnecT guarantees VSNL the most technologically advanced billing solution available today,” says Kevin Adams. “India is a very exciting market for us. This is Intec’s second major customer win in India this year and we are confident that this contract will generate further business opportunities for Intec’s products.”
