  • Fast implementation by Intec allows interconnect revenue generation from day one

London - July 11, 2001 - Intec Telecom Systems has announced that Digicel, Jamaica’s first GSM service provider, has begun operation of its InterconnecT™ intercarrier billing solution. As part of a contract valued at close to half a million Pounds, Intec’s implementation team delivered and installed the InterconnecT billing system in less than four months. The Digicel GSM network, which gives 80 per cent population coverage in Jamaica, went live in April 2001, with InterconnecT enabling Digicel to produce its first invoice in May 2001.

"We are pleased to have selected Intec as our preferred vendor of inter-carrier solutions,” says Earl Manning, Digicel’s Director of Information Technology. “InterconnecT’s proven billing capacity allows us to provide top quality GSM mobile services and a host of value added products to our Jamaican customers.”

InterconnecT, the world leader in domestic and international inter-carrier billing, provides the flexibility and proven technology to accommodate all network types. With successful installations worldwide in fixed, mobile and IP carriers, Digicel benefited from InterconnecT’s wide experience in rapid configuration and implementation, allowing billing and settlement to occur reliably and accurately from day one. Digicel will also be able to use InterconnecT billing to support the future evolution of the GSM standard into GPRS and third generation networks.

“Intec’s InterconnecT solution allows Digicel to profit from its high-performance GSM network by enabling fast and accurate invoice generation and auditing of incoming charges,” said Kevin Adams, Intec’s CEO. “This is a critical activity for new GSM operators, as interconnect charges can be a substantial part of their operating costs.”

Digicel now plans to expand its business outside of Jamaica, creating a pan-Caribbean service of GSM networks through the acquisition of GSM licenses in other Caribbean Islands. This venture could lead to further business initiatives in the region for Intec’s world class billing and mediation solutions.
