  • France Telecom subsidiary chooses global market leader – InterconnecT from Intec Telecom Systems
  • Explosive growth in Latin American market set to duplicate situation in Europe

1st June 2000, Woking, England: Intelig, owned by France Telecom and other investors and one of the newest telecommunications companies in Brazil, has gone live with the first interconnect billing implementation in Brazil. The implementation went live just three months after purchase, using InterconnecT™ from Intec Telecom Systems, the worldwide market leader in interconnect settlement and billing software. InterconnecT will support Intelig’s forecast business growth in the international and long distance telephone market, and give it a strong commercial advantage by accurately billing interconnect charges according to its agreements with other carriers across Brazil.

Intelig wanted a quick and robust implementation to meet the fast-growing settlement and billing requirements of its existing interconnect agreements, including those signed with Telefonica, Embratel and CRT, all major operators in Brazil. Intec Telecom Systems was able to implement InterconnecT quickly because of the localised support offered through its new Latin-American regional headquarters in Brazil, and the strong international facilities such as multi-language support, already built-in to the product. Intec’s regional headquarters will continue to provide technical customer support to Intelig.

One risk that companies face when implementing any packaged IT solution is unexpected delays between purchasing the product and going live. France Telecom carried out an extensive evaluation of Intec System’s implementation procedures when the two companies signed a Master Agreement in November. Intec’s strong track record of fast, successful implementations in major carriers around the world, coupled with a very feature rich product, contributed to Intelig’s decision to purchase InterconnecT. “It was very important to Intelig that, once purchased, a solution would be in production without unnecessary delay and expense, as we are moving fast as a business in a competitive, expanding market. Intec Telecom Systems enabled a very quick set-up for our interconnect billing operations,” said Philippe Monier, Alcatel Program Manager at Intelig.

Many carriers in Latin America are now evaluating interconnect billing systems, as the growth in traffic and the increasing number of carriers looks set to duplicate the situation in Europe, where interconnect billing has become a critical business activity. “InterconnecT was highly recommended by France Telecom, a carrier with some of the best interconnect billing expertise in the world. We estimate that Intelig will need to process as many as 20 million CDRs (call data records) per day, a challenging requirement for some billing solutions. The scalability and proven performance of InterconnecT at these levels in the major European carriers was therefore vital to our purchase decision and we are confident that InterconnecT can meet our future needs,” said Monier.

Filipe Monteiro, Intec’s regional director in Brazil, said: “The interconnect market is highly active in Brazil at present and the pressure on operators to sign and maintain interconnect agreements is huge. Intelig wanted a powerful solution, with a quick installation time, that would meet these demands and also offer the flexibility to grow with them as the Brazilian market continues to develop.”
