Intec and Cisco team to provide complete active mediation solution for data and content services

2006 Press Releases

  • Brazilian mobile operators Telemig Celular and Amazonia Celular become first joint customer in new Intec-Cisco relationship

London, 06 February, 2006 - Intec today announced that Intec and Cisco have successfully completed their first joint implementation with Amazonia Celular & Telemig Celular, two wireless operators with joint operations in Brazil with a broad content services offering. Intec, a global provider of business and operations support systems (BSS/OSS), recently completed interoperability testing for Intec’s Dynamic Charging Platform (DCP) with Cisco’s Content Services Gateway (CSG), part of the Cisco Mobile Exchange (CMX) product suite, an element of Cisco’s Next Generation Networking architecture for mobile operators. Intec became a Cisco Technology Development Partner in 2005 and completed interoperability testing for DCP 5.1.1 at the Cisco facility in Research Triangle Park, NC.

“This new relationship reinforces Intec’s position as a global leader in OSS and confirms DCP’s position as the world’s leading active mediation platform,” said Intec VP of Strategic Alliances Jim Karr. “Together, Intec and Cisco provide mobile operators with the tools they need to offer and bill for next generation data and content services. For example, Amazonia/Telemig is using Intec’s DCP and Cisco’s CSG to manage their expanding product portfolio, allowing them to quickly launch new services based on innovative technology to all of their customers, including prepaid.”

Cisco’s CSG and Intec DCP validate Amazonia/Telemig’s data-traffic in real time. CSG then routes that traffic, and reports the session result to Intec DCP where it is transformed into billable information. As part of Cisco’s IP NGN Service Exchange Framework, the Cisco CMX is highly scalable, allowing the operator to match subscriber demand to capital investment. It also offers flexibility in that operators can tailor the functionality offered to their specific needs, for example, session level billing may be needed today but with the desire to evolve to content billing over time.

“Because new services and mobile-driven applications are being adopted en masse in record numbers, mobile carriers need to fortify their infrastructure to capture maximum revenue while increasing customer satisfaction” said Larry Lang, Vice President and General Manager of Cisco’s Mobile Wireless Group. “The Cisco Content Services Gateway (CSG) enables Amazônia/Telemig to provide advanced processing of IP flows through dynamic content examination, subscriber service access control, and subscriber account balance enforcement in a highly scalable, robust package.”

Working together creates a synergy for both parties that strengthens their competitive edge in the content billing market. As mobile operators continue to advance and offer more value-added services, they need the proper infrastructure in order to properly bill for these services in a timely manner and remain competitive in an increasingly competitive market.
